The lower tailgate area is the worst spot for rust on this vehicle, other than the floorpans. The sheet metal rear body crossmember was cut out and replaced with a piece of square tube. New body mounts and braces were welded to that piece. Body supports were also trimmed away and reconstructed because of rust. The floor has been trimmed back and plug welded to the new crossmember. This all makes for a very strong foundation for the tailgate hinge.
