'72 Corvette, From Holland!

Client Dennis van der Breggen of the Netherlands had HCR help design his latest ride, a '72 Corvette roadster.  This C3 will be treated to a 632 ci EFI Hot Rod Series big block Chevy from Nelson Racing Engines.  All of the 850hp will be channeled through a 6-speed Tremec and planted via a custom chassis from Streetshop, Inc.

Fabrication and final assembly will be handled by Heartland Customs of Purcell, OK.  They will also be creating the custom interior featuring a Paul Atkins dash, iPad vehicle control center, and SLS AMG styled seats (complete with Air Scarf vents).

HCR also designed the one-off gauges that will be utilized in the dash pod.

10 Boring Cars Article in PHR

Sounds like a real downer article, doesn't it?  Actually the article written by Christopher Campbell offers up a fresh look at 10 seemingly boring cars that have been spruced up by professional automotive designers.  HCR was included in the mix with Jon Clark's '68 Valiant project named Flat Bastard.

I have been working with Jon off and on since I first started working in the automotive industry and I was thoroughly honored when he approached me about working on his personal project, a '68 Plymouth Valiant.  We went through many different iterations, and I'll give you a sample of the two finalists here:

HCR in Hot Rod Magazine

Pure Vision's Anvil Mustang gets a corner spot on the cover
The June 2011 issue of Hot Rod Magazine is a good one!  Pure Vision's latest halo car, the Anvil Mustang, has a full feature article showcasing all the great details of the build.  My rendering for the project is also printed in the article.

Hot Rod also had me come up with a modern Z/28 Camaro concept for the cover story which pits the new Boss 302 against the ZL1 Camaro.  The boys at the magazine asked the question, "Where's the Z28?"  Actually it's on page 48...

Also in the mag is a new Craftsman ad that I helped worked on.  I was asked to storyboard some ideas for a photo shoot that would showcase a few new tools in the Craftsman lineup.  This first version turned out well and there are more to come!

Big League Ferrari

Every now and then I get to work on a car that's just a little bit different.  And when one of my clients who is also a sports agent calls me up I know it's going to be something interesting.  This time around the vehicle being modified was a brand new Ferrari 458 Italia for a player on the Colorado Rockies.  Project planning on a build like this is absolutely critical and HCR makes it even easier on those involved.  With a set of illustrations in hand the client can present options to the owner and then lock down a design which the builder can then execute.  Everybody is saved the headache of wondering which wheels or paint options will look best because all of the information they need is presented in the project renderings.  In the end the car turns out just as planned.

RC Aerodyne Product Packaging

It's not always cars, cars, cars at HCR.  Many times I'm working away on projects that are extremely cool, but just a little different.  RC Aerodyne's latest Chaos RC Helicopter lineup is one of those projects.  They called on HCR to provide artwork for the packaging that would help the product really stand out from the rest.  Check out http://www.scaleflying.com/ for a look at all the kits that RC Aerodyne has to offer.

Refined Cruiser: 1939 Dodge

Not only are Bob and Stef Barnett building one very cool '39 Dodge, they are also the nicest people to work with!  Here's a hot tip: Any clients that feed me are guaranteed to get special attention while I'm working on their vehicle.

The '39 already has updated suspension, brakes, and also a 3rd Gen 5.7L Hemi backed up by a Dodge 5spd automatic.  It's definitely going to drive great, but how will it look?

I sat down with Bob and Stef to discuss the overall look and feel of the car and we came up with this theme for the paint.

The two-tone scheme keeps a classic look, but with updated tones that will play off of the rich interior that is also planned.

Pure Vision's Latest

Pure Vision is at it again with their latest project car, and an HCR rendering is helping to lead the way.  At the 2010 Grand National Roadster Show Pure Vision showed off the bare metal body of their newest halo car, a '72 Camaro.  The second gen will feature a healthy dose of carbon fiber goodies from Anvil Auto including a newly designed hood, bumpers, fenders, and spoiler.  Keep an eye out for updates on this incredible Camaro!

Black Betty: Camaro Performers Project Car

Camaro Performers magazine editor Nick Licata had me design up a simple stripe for their 2001 Z28 project car.  You can follow along with the buildup in the magazine or online at CamaroPerformers.com.
